He became abbot and teacher of grammar and physics. In 1820 he was appointed professor of history at the University of Padua . In the following years he also became a professor of Austrian and diplomatic history. He was nominated rector of the University of Padua twice and was entrusted with the direction of the faculty of philosophy and the university library. The numerous academic commitments did not prevent him from carrying out the role of president of the Venetian Institute of Sciences, Letters and Arts between 1847-1850 again in 1857-1859. In 1866 he was dismissed as dean of the Faculty of Philosophy because he was considered pro-Austrian. Antonio Bernati (1792 - 1873) Born in Bassano del Grappa, he attended the Accademia di Belle Arti in Venice, training as a printmaker with G. Cipriani. Dimensions: Page is 18.55 x 12.75" (47 x 32 cm) Print is 16 x 11" (42 x 28 cm) I offer one of the most extraordinary collections of original, large format, museum-quality copper engravings depicting the history of costumes from around the world. In addition to the ancient and medieval costumes, these engravings include historical scenes of daily life, architectural drawings, transportation, and more. This group of copper engravings took 10 years to produce. Each engraving is intensely detailed and includes the original copperplate impression. These engravings are from the first and only edition of these works. And, within this group are some spectacular engravings with fine watercoloring by hand. The scarcity of the collection, the condition of the collection, the elephant folio size, the detail of the copper engravings, and the subject matter make this one of the most impressive collections we've procured. These would look stunning framed and would make for exceptional, one-of-a-kind gifts. This piece was illustrated by Bernati, Antonio. Artist signature in print - bottom right of image.
