(James Edward Smith, 1759-1828) "English botany; or, coloured figures of british plants, with their essential characters, synonyms, and places of growth" (Английская ботаника; или цветные зарисовки британских растений, с их основными характеристиками, синонимами и местами произрастания).

? The artist carefully depicts various parts of the plant - the flowers, buds, fruits and leaves.. Using short small strokes detail is added to the work, and color is added by hand. It is almost as if the artist chose the air around him as his medium, rather than the traditional paints and brushes.....
