It is a later edition published by Groombridge and Sons, London in around 1890. There are 44 colour plates of different birds, as well as an extra 3 - the Chough, the Bee Eater and the Hoopoe - which have been inserted here between pages 26 & 27 with their text pages 21-28, from another volume. After this the rest of the book continues as it should. Original red cloth hardboards with blind stamped pattern and gilt title lettering to the front board. Gilt lettering and decoration to the spine. Rear hinge is split so the spine covering is coming away from the backbone. A couple of splits to the front hinge also. Board edges worn. Navy endpapers with school sticker. Binding very loose throughout and with a number of detached pages. Condition: fair.
