As a retired military man, Brantome (Pierre De Bourdeilles) spent the rest of his life recounting his memories of courtly life and libertinage. La Vie Des Dames Galantes is divided in seven chapters called "Discours". La Vie des dames gallantes ( The Life of the Gallant Ladies ) describes with verve and freedom, the erotic atmosphere of the second half of the 18th century. From the diversity of the romantic temperaments of young or old women, married or widowed, to the rules of courtly love through the eroticism of the leg and foot, the author is never short of subjects to deal with. An immersion in courtesan affairs in the Renaissance era. In a sometimes funny tone, the author recounts the chronicles of love life at the court of the last Valois. Paul-Emile Becat (1885-1960) was a French painter, engraver and draughtsman and holder of a first second Grand Prix de Rome in 1920. He is best known today as an illustrator of erotic books. He was probably one of the most prolific illustrators to such an extent that his painted work is virtually unknown. This master of engraving "at the dry point", this cantor of the female body and sapphic scenes whose eroticism is exacerbated by the precision of the line, delights bibliophiles lovers of libertine images.
